Ingredients

Apple waffles

  • 3 large apples
  • 2 eggs
  • 60 g sugar
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 80 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 180 ml milk
  • 220 g plain flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • A little butter or neutral oil, for the waffle iron
  • Wooden skewers

Cinnamon-sugar topping

  • 50 g sugar
  • 1–1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Caramel sauce, to taste

Method

  1. Wash the apples and cut them crosswise into slices about 1.5–2 cm thick. Remove the core from each slice if needed, then carefully thread the slices onto wooden skewers.
  2. Beat the eggs, sugar and vanilla sugar briefly until creamy. Add the softened butter and milk, then mix again.
  3. Add the flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Mix only until a thick, smooth batter forms.
  4. Preheat the waffle iron and grease it lightly with butter or neutral oil.
  5. Dip each apple slice completely into the batter and let the excess drip off briefly.
  6. Place the coated slices in the waffle iron and cook for 3–5 minutes, depending on the appliance, until golden brown.
  7. Mix the topping sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Remove the warm apple waffles from their skewers and coat them in the cinnamon sugar.
  8. Drizzle with caramel sauce to taste and serve warm.
